Chiefs retain key defensive players with $93 million contract
Recently, the Chiefs and defensive end George Karaftis reached a 4-year $93 million contract extension, which includes $62 million in guaranteed terms. The average annual salary of the new contract is $22 million, and the incentive clause can reach up to $23.5 million.
As a first-round pick in 2022, Karaftis, wearing a NFL jerseys, has grown into an indispensable key force in the Chiefs' defensive system. In April this year, the Chiefs executed the fifth-year option of Karaftis' rookie contract, which means he will play for the Chiefs until at least the 2030 season.
Since putting on the Kansas City Chiefs football jersey, Karaftis has contributed 115 tackles, 56 quarterback hits, 24.5 sacks and 24 line tackles in 49 regular season games. In the Super Bowl journey in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, he also made important contributions to the Chiefs' consecutive championships.
